Two weeks ago I had the opportunity to return to my all-time favorite restaurant, Shunji Japanese Cuisine. I only had 90 minutes, but I knew I could do plenty of damage in that time, and Shunji was certainly up to the challenge. Below is the whirlwind omakase I had in an hour and a half, shown through Instagram just to change things up a bit from from my other Shunji reviews…
(I’m rather happy with how many of the Instagrams came out, especially the one of the oysters and marinated tomato. Let me know what you think!)
While everything I had was excellent as always, the highlights of the meal were the Snow Crab Cake, fried perfectly crisp on the outside, with sweet and delicate crab meat that just seemed to go on forever on the inside; the Japanese Eggplant with Wagyu and Uni, such an unique combination of textures and flavors that worked together amazingly well; the Kamatoro, Chutoro, Ootoro Nigiri, naturally; and the Sanma Nigiri, probably the best single piece of hikarimono sushi I’ve had. I wish I could afford to go to Shunji every week!
