The inaugural Masters of Taste event took place on the Rose Bowl field on Sunday, April 3, 2016. For a first time event, it was extremely well run. Heck, even compared to veteran events, this one seemed to go smoothly. With plenty of shade, beverages (including water courtesy of Boxed Water), and space, the event seemed more elegant and less frenetic than others. I don’t believe the event sold out, so that may have been a factor. While I’m sure the organizers wished they sold more tickets, especially since the event benefited a great cause, Union Station Homeless Services, it sure was nice for the attendees.
Since the event was in Pasadena, many local restaurants participated, including Alexander’s Steakhouse Osawa, and Magnolia House.
Of course many other restaurants from the greater LA area also participated. Some of my favorite dishes were the shrimp ceviche above, as well as dishes from Hamasaku, BeirBiesl, and Nighthawk.
Probably the most interesting dish was Ayara Thai’s salmon larb served in a squid ink cone. It was really good!
I really enjoyed myself at this first ever Masters of Taste! Hope next year’s bigger and better!
