In 2015, I attended around 20 food festivals and events, including one epic weekend during which I hit five different food festivals: Taste of Mexico, Off the Hook, Brunch at the Races, The Food Event, and EastSide Food Fest. While it was a lot of fun, and I’m glad I attempted and accomplished it (if it could be called an accomplishment), I’ll probably never try that again. Aw, who am I kidding?
2016 is starting off with some great food events in the first two months of the new year. I’ll be going to some, hopefully all of these events, but I’m always looking for more. If you know of an event that I didn’t cover here, please let me know!
Los Angeles Magazine‘s Best New Restaurants 2016 Celebration: On Wednesday, January 20, 2016, LA Magazine is throwing a fun shindig at 440 Seaton in the Arts District to celebrate their Best New Restaurants of 2015 issue out this month! Participants include The Bellwether, Birch, Broken Spanish, Cassia, Faith & Flower, Jon & Vinny’s, Le Comptoir, Love & Salt, Redbird, Terrine, and Union. That’s quite a line up! Tickets are still available for $70 + fees.
Taste of Night Market: On February 5th and 6th (Friday and Saturday, respectively), the creators of the 626 Night Market is hosting a food event far, far away from the SGV, in Santa Monica at the Barker Hangar. Participants include the China Tasty, Komodo, and the Original Ramen Burger. With it being the weekend before Chinese/Lunar New Year, should be a good time! Unlike the 626 Night Market, where food is purchased separately, a $65/$85 ticket (GA/VIP) includes all food and drink!
LA Cookie Con & Sweets Show 2016: On Saturday/Sunday, February 6th/7th, overlapping the Taste of Night Market for one day, LA Cookie Con is back and bigger than ever. Last year’s inaugural event had some first-time hiccups, but the event promises to be much improved, expanding into the LA Convention Center across two days! VIP weekend passes are sold out. Tickets still available range in price from $10 for a one-day kids admission to $35 for a weekend pass for adults.
LA Weekly‘s The Essentials 2016: The first of Los Angeles’s signature food events each year, The Essentials will feature 60+ restaurants under one roof at the California Market Center, all from LA Weekly’s annual 99 Essential Restaurants list, including but not limited to Baroo, Guerrilla Tacos, Jitlada, Kiriko, Maude, Night+Market, Providence, Republique, Trois Mec, and more! VIP tickets are already sold out, but $60 GA tickets are available, for now!
